Thank you, this is awesome. One thing I have been wondering, Helen. Do you ever transpose for the Southern Hemisphere or do you leave it with the Northern names? I realise you are in Australia; I am in NZ and have been wondering about this one!
I do at times feel divided in two! Technically, when studying the calendar and traditions my head is in the northern hemisphere, but in every day moments I do at times switch to the opposite, especially at moments like this, when its so blatantly clear we're at the midwinter solstice rather than the summer. My feeling is that when we get deep into tradition then its more appropriate to switch - what's your experience? I think the only time I've had real problems is when visiting in Scotland and getting confused because the sun goes the other way across the sky! I learnt to walk with a compass at all times...
I'm a Northern hemisphere boy, been here 20 years but Orion still seems weird coming up feet-first! The moon phases and the sun movement have taken a lot of getting used to.
Definitely feeling the winter at the moment, it is quite cold here.
I'm still very much at the start of my journey, but the Coligny Calendar absolutely fascinates me and your work has quickly become a go-to for the information about how it works. Luckily I have a friend in a Polytec - I get access to the latest articles without having to wait or pay! I haven't got far enough into my studies to invert the calendar yet, something to have a play with.
Oh I wouldnt try to invert the calendar, it's already way too complicated. But, its possible to invert things like the festivals, because the solstices are marked DUMAN 1 for the summer solstice, SIMUIS 8 for the winter solstice. Then you could measure the other festival points from these. Glad you like the calendar, I love it too!
